Matt Bowers of our Sacramento office recently participated as the Regional Head Judge for the Mid-Pacific Student Steel Bridge Conference held at UC Davis.
The competition challenges teams of students to design, fabricate, and construct a steel bridge spanning 18 feet and capable of supporting 2500 lbs. The bridge design concept was for a hypothetical wildlife crossing over I90 in Washington State resulting in a number of design challenges to be overcome. The competition is the culmination of over 6 months of effort from civil engineering students across the region.
Mr. Bowers led a team of eight judges in areas of aesthetics, timed construction, and structural efficiency during the all-day competition at the ARC Pavilion.
Congratulations to the overall winners: University of California, Berkeley
