The purpose of this research was to provide the information required to finalize seismic retrofit design of the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge. The emphasis was on conducting cyclic tests of half-scale specimens representing laced members and joints of the Bridge. The study indicated that the dominant failure mode of the members tested was local buckling of the angle legs between the lace points. In specimens with gusset plate connections, the main failure mode was the failure of connection rivets.
