This peer-reviewed article presents an investigation conducted to determine the behavior of bridge column reinforcing bar cages subjected to lateral loads. Two full-scale cages were tested until failure to determine the response to lateral displacement and identify progressive collapse sequences. Using the results from the experimental study, nonlinear static and dynamic finite element analyses were performed on computational models of the cages.
